Q:If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?
A: Pilgrims!
Q: Why did the girl throw a stick of butter out the window?
A: Because she wanted to see the butterfly!
I remember guffawing like mad back then. I think I've changed. A lot.
ANYWAYS, here are the minutes. And woohoo for April!
Minutes for 3/31 and 4/1 Meeting
Eco-consulting
- person in charge- Mira Scarvalone mira.scarvalone@gmail.com
- would be very in-depth and specific consulting for RSOs looking to have more sustainable events and practices
- test-pilot phase this quarter with Relay for Life and Progressive Gala
- would strive for the professionalism of other organizations like Eckhart Consulting and Campus Catalyst but maintain an open attitude towards membership
- e-mail Mira if interested!
- it's time to apply for money again
- to achieve success in funding applications, we should devote time and resources to writing out good applications
- many recommended workshops and required meetings to attend
- Alba maybe interested in working on it
- working with Ted and Sustainability Office to start Plant My Phone at UChicago
- donate phones to plant trees as well as get a 1 in 500 chance to win $1000
- we need volunteers to flyer and maintain the phone collection sites
- e-mail Willy at wwgu44@gmail.com if interested in helping
- VERY IMPORTANT, will decide if BotB is more successful than it was last year
- the main goal is to improve participation
- something green for the houses of the dorm
- candlelit house dorm dinners
- individual raffle for prizes
- group prizes like study breaks or trips to somewhere
- study break for all dorms that meet a certain threshold of energy reduction
- have 2nd and 3rd place prizes so those dorms that aren't like Breckinridge still feel like they have a shot of winning something
- FB event for the entire month
- FB fan page
- Blog, both GCI and Bulbs
- Listhosts- play off competitions through the house, RAs, RHs, IHC, RMs, and house meetings
- something that's public, sustainable, promotional in a big way. gimmicky publicity item
- flyers by lights to remind them to turn off
- "turn me off" little man switches
- table tents with reused paper
- tabling if we have the resources
- want to limit to 4 at most. 2 would be fine
- bonfire, outdoor bbq, free food. some sort of outdoors event
- sporting event in the dark. midnight soccer tournament with a glow in the dark ball, CTF on the quads, etc. also, use the Midway as a field
- have at least one study-centric event. not sure what yet though. some suggestions:
- petition to reopen Crear for one night. it'll be Old School. maybe a night in Harper
- stake out big study rooms and offer music and food in the Reg
- APRIL 19TH IMPORTANT EVENT THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
- main goal is publicity and promotion
- it's okay if we don't educate people that much, although as we should. we just want to get BotB out there
- music- Lakesigns, Number 9 (Beatles tribute band), acapella groups
- have it outside in a minimal lighting area or work with surrounding buildings to only turn off lights for part of the event
- holding the event in Bartlett quad would have less lights to turn of. location would be very important
- all acoustic music? no electrical instruments? probably won't work because it would be too soft
- free food of course
- find some sustainable glowsticks
- Rahul and Alba will work on fun facts and educational aspect of the event
- bring in Earth Week too to publicize that
- SO many events. a calendar would be VERY helpful
- Does anybody want to take this job on?
- crucial for recruiting
- we need to start early as possible, and what better way to start at the prospy RSO fair
- got free lightbulbs, thanks to Shola
- promote CUB energy saver, a program that targets apartment dwellers in how to save money on electric bills
- will go ahead with some sort of bill paying program for those who decrease their electric bills the most
- got several donations
- check them out here
- BotB is more pressing concern, so we'll put this on hold
Willy
